Home |        Hands-on Training Workshop on “Evaluation of Germplasm for Resistance to Banana Bunchy Top Disease (BBTD)” SDGs      Place : Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen Date : 24-02-2569Time : 00.00 น.      The Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen, Kasetsart University, organized a hands-on training workshop titled “Evaluation of Germplasm for Resistance to Banana Bunchy Top Disease (BBTD)” during 24–25 February 2026 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Kamphaeng Saen. On this occasion, Assistant Professor Dr. Chaisit Thongjoo, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen, presided over the opening ceremony. The workshop featured expert trainers from the Philippines, including Dr. Fe M. dela Cueva, Ms. Roanne R. Gardoce, and Mr. Jhianio S. Luis, who shared their technical expertise and practical experience with participants from multiple countries across the region. The program was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Plant Pathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Kamphaeng Saen, which served as the main host. Assistant Professor Dr. Samabharn Sinhabandhu acted as the program leader, overseeing both academic and practical components of the training. The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity in evaluating resistance to Banana Bunchy Top Disease (BBTD) and to promote academic collaboration among institutions in Southeast Asia. Participants included representatives from Malaysia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand. This training was organized under the Grand Challenges: Bananas in Southeast Asia Programme, within the project titled “Thailand and Laos Banana Genetic Resource Assessment and Conservation for Future Breeding Programs”, specifically Subproject 2: Phenotyping and Pre-breeding for Disease Resistance in Wild Musa Accessions, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Ratri Boonruangrod from the Department of Horticulture. The project is supported by the Gates Foundation and partially funded by the Special Research Incubation Unit for Banana Genomics and Breeding, Kasetsart University.
